There are different kinds of hearing loss that are commonly seen. Of these, one of the commonest is the conductive hearing loss. This is the condition in which the hearing is lost because of the delay or inability to conduct the sound waves from the external environment to the necessary structures.
There are certain situations in which the conductive hearing loss can occur. The situations are those in which the person may either have suffered a trauma or any other problem. The common cause of this deficit in hearing is the collection of wax in the ear.
Each and every person can have wax collection. Regular cleaning of the ear can help to remove the wax completely. There are some people who have excessive wax productions in the ear. There are some others who may not be cleaning their ear at regular intervals. The wax level in the ear goes beyond the level it is supposed to be. This can cause the person to have a block in the canal of the ear. The external and the internal environment are not able to connect because of this problem. This can finally cause the person to suffer from hearing loss.
The conductive hearing loss that is caused because of wax accumulation is usually a reversible process and when the wax is completely cleaned and removed, hearing is restored. A block can occur in the canal of the ear, leading to hearing loss. This is caused by an infection. Otitis media is the name given to the middle ear infection. This is a condition in which the infection in the ear is present. The infection can lead to some kind of swelling inside the ear and blocks the ear canal. This too causes the sound to be prevented from being conducted leading to hearing loss.
The other cause of conductive hearing loss is trauma. There is a structure inside the ear called as the tympanic membrane. This is a structure that causes the vibrations to be perceived. This is a sensitive organ and can be easily damaged. This can get damaged when there is an explosive sound near the ear. The other situations when the tympanis membrane is damaged are when someone meddles with the internals of the ear and tries to remove the wax. When the damage to the ear is because of trauma and if the tympanic membrane is ruptured completely, it is not possible to correct the problem. Though these are the causes of the conductive hearing loss, they are not similar in their mechanism, but the resulting damage is that the conduction of sound is lost.
